Silva Tree Cell

The other day, Kim from Natural Solutions came to our office to introduce to us the Silva Tree Cell and Stormwater Management System from Deep Roots.

What I found particularly fascinating from her presentation of the products were the biological care of the trees and plants, ensuring that there's still loose soil comfortable for tree roots to grow, yet still creating a sufficiently strong system of a brace to hold the load of any weight on it. And it's hollowness (more than 90% empty space structure) allows for easy maintenance and easy implementation of the framework, good for laying pipelines and broadband lines etc too.

It's just the simplicity of it, thinking of minimising costs and unnecessary structure, but maximising benefits with a focus. When she was talking about the bracing structure for the raingarden too and how they created a modular system to simplyify things as much as possible, I was really impressed by it; the cleverest designs are indeed always the simplest.

Really worth to consider if I ever had the opportunity. Last few Brown Bag presentations have all been about trees and their survivability (/lack thereof) in urban environments over time. Makes me think what does Singapore do, or are we just blessed with such a tropical climate and that much rainfall?

Also, what else could we create as modular structures too? What else could we simplify? Hmm.
