Key ideas for ecological design

A few quotes from the book I'm reading now,
Basics Landscape Architecture 02: Ecological Design;

"Ecological design is the process of actively shaping the form and operations of complex environments in such a way that composition and processes help to maintain and, if possible, increase the integrity of a region's ecological relationships."

The goal of ecological design should be "to create built sites and a collective urban fabric that enabled valued environmental processes and structures to be resilient to changes over time, while also promoting diversity and health in both natural and human communities."

"Ecological design promotes cyclical rather than linear flows of energy and seeks to minimise waste and maximise environmental integrity from the scale of the planet to the site...in addition, urban ecological design serves people - connecting people with nature in ways that reveal processes, promote stewardship and benefit both human and intrinsic non-human ecologies, while aiming to enhance rather than diminish local ecological integrity."

Common goals of green infrastructure networks =
access to public open space,
improved habitat conditions for wildlife,
conservation and cleaning of water resources,
reducing energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions by offering alternative options for low-carbon transportation
