Major Design Probes

1. Set the context up really well, building up the story to show why your design is crucial for this community, how it solves everything and also adds a layer of excitement and anticipation to and for it!
2. What interested you in the area, your background (Terry, Bridget); context of the area like main features, things that 'work' and 'don't' (Shea), circulation in site, opportunities and constraints; why is change needed; vision; objectives; strategy; describe design but ideal to use more sketches not just plan view, or even pictures of how it could look like, like pictures of actual other places such as night markets, just to help form a better mental picture of how it might feel like (Xiaoxing). Do a Zhangyan, as in walk through your design step by step, highlighting areas as you solve each problem, eventually talking about the entire design as a whole. Even listing the opportunities and constraints down and then drawing the links as to how this had built up each part of your design too; vegetation strategy and material strategy should be used to build up character, talk about what sort of identity or character or feel you're trying to express through these materials; conclude with main benefits, or summary of your interventions/strategy, and also if possible show proposed and existing diagrams and then overlay them to be very clear as to how much change is needed in your site (Xiaoxing)
3. Consider character of design together with surrounding context relationship
4. Add in spot heights for levels in plan view
5. Consider access for all, including the disabled and the elderly
6. Make sure that different scale plans have different details
7. Have context for section elevations (maybe draw a line on plan view and then the line stays and it fades into the section elevation?)
8. Consider microclimate, viewshed, open space green networks - including beyond the site as well to elaborate why this is a strategic design, circulation of people coming into the site - where would they come from and how would they access the area, edges on buildings
9. Have a theme as a driver? Like Carolyn's musical score as a landscape

On Aranui, maybe:
10. Consider politics, water, social theory, pick something that you really want to venture in and might be related to future work (Singapore for example? Water as an international problem, sustainability issues, or even lack of space - since Aranui is redzoned too so lack of space within area)
