Digging in deep

DEEP URBANISM

Primary types of deep sections:
1. landscape transect - interconnection between vegetation on surface and soil and hydrological behaviour below ground; start from intended vegetation patterns of a landscape design, move down to describe requisite soil horizons, drainage or irrigation regimes, and biological conditions necessary to support that vegetative community, acting as a generative tool for establishing proper growing conditions
2. structural section - actual dimensions, notations, relations needed for building a landscape
3. sequential section; embraces the conceptual and practical benefits of measurement and spatial precision - using multiple sectional cuts to express depth across space or time in order to show a narrative progression, focusing on visible and spatial conditions of interiority, light, or landscape experience, or cut through time; can be used to describe planting strategy

More important to focus on "how it works and what it does" rather than what a landscape looks like (Corner, J.)
